Zainab “Bukky” Ajayi (February 2, 1934 – July 6, 2016) was a pioneering Nigerian actress whose career spanned nearly five decades . Educated in English drama and theatre in England on a federal scholarship, she joined the Nigerian Television Authority in 1966 as a presenter and newsreader . She debuted as an actress on Village Headmaster in the 1970s, and later starred in iconic TV and film productions such as Checkmate, Diamond Ring (1998), Witches, and Mother of George (2013) . Honored with the Industry Merit Award at the 2016 AMVCA, her last public act was a moving acceptance speech just months before her passing in Lagos at age 82
