Biography
Lanre Hassan, popularly known as Iya Awero, is a veteran Nigerian actress, comedian, and theatre practitioner celebrated as one of the foundational figures of Yoruba-language cinema and television. Born in Lagos in 1950, she began her acting career with the Western Nigerian Television (WNTV) theatre movement before becoming a prominent member of the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group. Over the decades, Hassan became widely recognized for her comic timing, expressive performances, and maternal screen presence in stage plays, television dramas, and Yoruba films. She appeared in numerous productions including Koto Orun, Ayo Ni Mo Fe, Iku Yeye, and several classic traveling theatre adaptations that helped shape indigenous Nigerian entertainment. Beyond acting, she has remained an influential cultural figure within Nollywood and Yoruba theatre, mentoring younger performers while preserving traditional performance styles. Her decades-long contribution to Nigerian cinema has earned her recognition as one of the enduring matriarchs of Yoruba storytelling and comic performance.

The film centres on Omotara Johnson, played by Bukky Wright, a woman with a deep hatred for men and a relentless appetite for getting what she wants, regardless of who stands in her way. She covets her best friend Kemi Ajibodu’s fiancé, Tunde Bamgbopa, and her pursuit of him leads to a trail of betrayal, manipulation, and murder. She eventually lands in prison, receives a pardon through a powerful chief, and briefly turns over a new leaf, only to find herself tangled in fresh consequences.
