Biography

Shirleen first captured the hearts of East Africans as "Shish" in the iconic high school drama Tahidi High. However, she has spent the last decade proving she is much more than a TV star. Through Blackwell Films, she has become a pioneer in genre-bending African cinema, moving from period pieces like Wavamizi to heist dramedies like Cards On The Table (2025). To be honest, her "1992 Universe" is one of the most creative things happening in Kenyan film right now. It started as a short film (1992), became a successful stage play, and finally a feature film—all centered around the nostalgia and struggle of Nairobi in the early 90s. Her 2026 AMVCA nomination for Best Writing solidifies her as one of the elite storytellers on the continent, showing that she has a sharp ear for dialogue and a deep understanding of the human condition under pressure.
