Biography
Tobi Makinde is a Nigerian actor, director, filmmaker, and media personality celebrated for his dynamic presence both in front of and behind the camera. Born on May 16, 1991, and raised in Lagos, Tobi began his artistic journey as a child actor, featuring in early productions such as Silenced, Full Circle, and Kamson N Neighbours. His passion for performance and storytelling led him to study Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos, where he honed his craft and laid the foundation for a distinguished career in Nollywood. His breakthrough role came with his portrayal of “Timini” in Funke Akindele’s award-winning sitcom Jenifa’s Diary, where his performance endeared him to audiences nationwide. This role not only established him as a household name but also showcased his ability to balance humour, depth, and relatability. He further reprised this character in spin-offs such as Aiyetoro Town and Jenifa on Lockdown, cementing his place in one of Nigeria’s most iconic television universes. Beyond acting, Tobi has proven himself a skilled filmmaker and director. He co-directed the 2022 box-office hit Battle on Buka Street alongside Funke Akindele, a film that broke records and solidified his reputation as one of Nollywood’s next-generation creative leaders. He has also featured in critically acclaimed projects, including Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020), A Tribe Called Judah (2023), She Must Be Obeyed (2023), Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024), 3 Working Days (2025), and Benefactor (2025). His versatility allows him to seamlessly transition between comedic roles, dramatic performances, and behind-the-scenes leadership. In addition to his work in film and television, Tobi is also an entrepreneur and show host. He is the visionary behind The Tobi Makinde Show (TTM Show), a platform designed to inspire, educate, and entertain audiences by exploring conversations on growth, business, lifestyle, and creativity. With a growing social media presence, he continues to engage a wide audience, blending entertainment with motivational storytelling. Tobi’s brand is built on charisma, authenticity, and excellence. Known as “the Charismatic Visionary,” he has become a role model for young creatives, embodying resilience, leadership, and an unrelenting passion for storytelling. He is also a sought-after brand partner, leveraging his influence to create value-driven collaborations across entertainment, lifestyle, and business sectors. As an actor, filmmaker, and media entrepreneur, Tobi Makinde remains committed to shaping narratives that resonate with African audiences while positioning Nollywood for greater global impact. His journey reflects not only personal growth but also a broader vision: to be a bridge between culture, creativity, and opportunity.
