Biography

Hossein Amini is an Academy Award-nominated Iranian-British screenwriter and director. He is widely revered in the industry for his ability to adapt complex literary works into tense, atmospheric cinema. He earned an Oscar nomination for "The Wings of the Dove" (1997) and gained cult status for writing the neo-noir modern classic "Drive" (2011), starring Ryan Gosling. In 2026, he re-teams with director James Watkins (with whom he previously collaborated on the hit series McMafia) for the DC Universe film "Clayface" (September 2026). Amini was brought in to write a new draft of the script (originally penned by Mike Flanagan), tasked with grounding the tragic "body horror" story of the classic Batman villain within the new DCU. His career spans genres, from period dramas like Jude to fantasy epics like Snow White and the Huntsman and psychological thrillers like The Two Faces of January (which he also directed).
